Research Advisory Group

Research Advisory Group

The Department for Business, Enterprise & Regulatory Reform (BERR) created the Research Advisory Group (RAG) as a pan-government body to encourage a co-ordinated approach among the regulatory and funding bodies, as they address the issues of round 2 wind farm proposals. RAG meets periodically and is chaired by DECC.

Having started with a budget of up to £2.5 million for offshore wind farm issues, RAG’s remit was extended to gain a better understanding of the potential impacts of wave and tidal power generation. It received a further budget of up to £2 million to concentrate on these emerging technologies.

Terms of reference and organisation

The Research Advisory Group’s terms of reference include issues associated with offshore wind, wave and tidal stream power generation.

The Group membership is drawn from Departments with regulatory responsibility for offshore renewable energy developments, including the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC), the Department for Transport (DfT), and The Crown Estate.
