Renewable energy policy

In this section, you will find information on UK Government policy on renewable energy, including:

There is also information on renewable heat, renewable transport, the International Energy Agency and the DECC Renewables Advisory Board.

UK Government policy on renewable energy helps to promote the development of renewable energy sources and ensure a diversity and security of supply.

A key aspect of this is the Renewables Innovation Review, which we carried out to:

  • identify the renewable technologies we need to meet UK targets and carbon reduction aspirations, and to create economic benefits
  • identify the barriers to developing and deploying key renewable technologies
  • understand better the innovation process in key renewable energy sectors
  • identify the most cost-effective ways to meet UK targets.

The DTI (part of which is now DECC) and The Carbon Trust, both members of the Sustainable Energy Policy Network, jointly conducted the Review. It will influence the Government’s future funding decisions.
