National Indicator NI 185: CO2 reduction from local authority operations

Most local authorities have supplied us with data for their own emissions (NI 185) for 2008/9. We are very grateful for this and expect to receive the remaining submissions very soon (spreadsheets should be sent to: national.indicators@aeat.co.uk).

DECC is examining this data and will be in touch with local authorities to confirm their 2008/9 baselines shortly. In some cases, adjustments may be made where errors have been identified – any changes that are made will be explained.

17/09/2009: NI 186 data for 2007 published (Revised dataset published 9/11/09)

Data for carbon dioxide emissions from local authority areas for 2007 are now available. This data has been drawn from new National Statistics which were also published today that have been adjusted for the purposes of NI 186 to exclude emissions sources over which local authorities have no influence (e.g. motorways and some EU ETS installations).

Note that revised data for 2005 and 2006 have been published alongside the 2007 data. The figures published previously for 2005 and 2006 should not now be used; it is only the revised 2005 and 2006 data that can be directly compared to the new 2007 statistics.

National Indicator NI 186: per capita reduction in CO2 emissions in the LA area

Please note that a revised dataset for NI186 was published on 9 November 2009.

The full National Statistics dataset, together with a number of other documents which explain the underlying methodology, can be found on our Statistics about climate change page.
