What can I do?

As an individual

Roof turbines

There are many ways of reducing energy usage in the home, and cutting emissions in everyday life.

Check your carbon footprint online and see whether it can be reduced - take a look at the sites below.

Helping you reduce your emissions

CArbon Calculator

The Carbon Calculator measures three areas of energy use: home energy, appliances and personal transport, so you can check your carbon footprint either as an individual or as a household. The calculator also provides you with a personalised Action Plan, describing the steps you can take to cut your emissions.

Microgeneration

Renewable energy technologies like wind turbines, solar panels and biomass heaters offer an alternative to fossil fuels such as gas and coal, and can help reduce your home's CO2 emissions. Read more about Microgeneration in the Meeting Energy Demand section.

The Energy Saving Trust offers a Home Energy Generator Selection tool to help you identify the technologies that may be suitable to generate heat or electricity for your home.

Energy Saving Trust

The Energy Saving Trust site also provides information to help you improve your home energy efficiency, save money on your energy bills, and advice on saving water, reducing household waste etc.

Smart meters

The Smart meters programme aims to replace around 50 million gas and electricity meters in every home in Great Britain. The new meters will allow you to monitor your energy consumption, manage your usage and reduce your expenditure.

My2050

As an individual you can play My2050 and decide how would you meet our energy demands and reduce carbon emissions by 2050. Make your choices then discuss and understand other solutions in the Facebook debate.
