Green Deal: Installer

Man rolling out insulation in a loftOnce a property has had an assessment and the finance for measures has been approved, installation is the next step. Only an authorised Green Deal Installer can install energy efficiency improvements under the Green Deal finance mechanism. Only authorised installers will be able to identify themselves as ‘Green Deal Installers’ and use the Green Deal Mark.

Who can install a Green Deal measure?

  • Only an authorised Green Deal Installer can install energy efficiency improvements under the Green Deal finance mechanism.
  • Only authorised installers will be able to identify themselves as ‘Green Deal Installers’ and use the Green Deal Quality Mark.

How do I become an authorised Green Deal Installer?

  • You must be certified by a Green Deal accredited certification body as meeting the standard PAS 2030 for the measures you wish to install.
  • You must abide by the conditions in the Green Deal Code of Practice which will be published in summer 2012.
  • Your certification body will register you for the Green Deal with the Registration and Oversight Body.
  • Your certification body will license you to use the Green Deal Quality Mark.

Does it make a difference if I am Gas Safe approved? Or registered under the Microgeneration Certification Scheme?

  • If you are already Gas Safe approved or are registered under the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) you will be exempted from meeting the standard (PAS 2030).
  • Your current certification body will register you on the basis of your Gas safe or MCS approval if you wish to operate under the Green Deal.

When can I register to be a Green Deal Installer?

  • The Green Deal Register will open in early August 2012.
  • Certification bodies should register then, and once they are authorised, they can then register those they have certified.
  • The registers will be held by the Green Deal Registration and Oversight Body.

Who are the Green Deal accredited certification bodies?

  • A list of certification bodies accepted so far for assessment under the Green Deal accreditation programme can be found on the UKAS website.
  • The assessments will be carried out in two stages, with a pilot group of applicants currently being assessed. The first batch of successful certification bodies are due to be announced in May 2012.
  • The remaining applicants commence their assessments from May 2012 and successful certification bodies are due to be announced from the summer.
  • Visit the United Kingdom Accreditation Service website for further information on who is undergoing accreditation.

What does the standard PAS 2030 cover?

  • Visit the BSI website for further information on purchasing a copy of PAS 2030:2012
  • The PAS achieves this by focusing particularly on the necessary installation processes for the measures, the management of the process that guides their installation and the quality of the service provided to the customer before, during and after the installation.
