MLSOA and LLSOA electricity and gas

Gas and electricity consumption data are available below Local Authority level, with the aim that this will enable councils and others to monitor and target small areas for further interventions as parts of their local energy strategies and enhance implementation of energy efficiency programmes and thus reduce carbon dioxide emissions.

Data are currently available for the following:

Super Output Areas names and codes

Super Output Areas (SOAs) are statistical geographies developed by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) as part of the 2001 census. They have more stable boundaries and are more comparable in terms of population than NUTS5/LAU2 areas or electoral ward areas. Our data are referring to the particular area using its code. If you need to know the name of the area,  please visit the Office for National Statistics (ONS): Lookups web pages.

Specific MLSOA or LLSOA can be located on a map, using the Office for National Statistics: Boundary Viewer on the ONS' Neighbourhood Statistics website.

Socio - economic data

In addition to the gas and electricity consumption data, we have also included socio-economic data for each sub-national geography region. Those spreadsheets contain details of population size, geographical size (in hectares) and number of households of these areas. is to allow users to gain more of an appreciation of the composition of the individual areas.

Our data also appears on following websites:

  • The Places Database provides access to a broad range of statistical data and information at several geographic levels across England.
  • The Neighbourhood Statistics website is an online data resource. It contains datasets that describe the characteristics of a neighbourhood and includes results from the 2001 Census.
