In March 2008, this gas consumption dataset gained National Statistics status. This status applies to all data from 2005 onwards. Please note that the 2004 data are still classed as experimental.
DECC has collected and compiled estimates of gas consumption at regional (NUTS1) and local authority levels (LAU1 – formally NUTS 4) using data at meter-point level from the re-structured gas distribution network. You can find further details about how the gas consumption data have been collated in the articles in the June 2005 and December 2005 to 2011 editions of Energy trends.
Please note that the gas data are weather normalised.

In-line with ONS recommendations regarding presentation of sub-national National Statistics, the following dataset, for 2010 data only, reflects the local government reorganisation operative from 1st April 2009.
The older series of regional (NUTS1) and local authority level (LAU1 – formally NUTS4) gas consumption estimates, are based on the National Grid's postcode sales. Data from 2001 to 2004 (all experimental) is available below:
