Following the release of 2009 sub-national energy consumption data at middle layer super output area (MLSOA) and lower layer super output area (LLSOA) in March 2011, the following 2009 sub-national energy consumption data at local-authority level (originally published in December 2010) has been updated to reflect new methodological improvements made to the geo-coding process introduced during the MLSOA/LLSOA exercise.
This methodological improvement mainly impacted on local authorities in Scotland. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
In March 2008, the electricity consumption dataset gained National Statistics status. This status applies to all data from 2005 onwards.
Details regarding the collection of electricity consumption data are provided in the June 2005 and December 2005-to-2009 editions of Energy trends.
Electricity consumption statistics for 2003, 2004 (both experimental series) and 2005 to 2009 at regional- and local-authority levels are available below.
In-line with ONS recommendations regarding presentation of sub-national National Statistics, the following dataset, for 2009 data only, reflects the local government reorganisation operative from 1 April 2009.
Domestic electricity consumption in 2009 and non-domestic electricity consumption in 2010 in Northern Ireland at District Council level are available below:
Sub-national electricity consumption statistics for 2010
During the final data analysis stages of this work, we have identified some data issues which still require significant further investigation. As a result, the publication of the usual special feature article in the December edition of Energy Trends and accompanying datasets that are released on the DECC website have had to be delayed.
We will publish the data on the DECC website as soon as we are confident that they are robust. The exact date of release will be shown on the National Statistics Publication Hub and also on this website at least two weeks in advance of publication.
We aim to have completed this work at the latest by the March 2012 edition of Energy Trends.
We apologise to subscribers for any inconvenience caused.
