Energy efficiency has been a growing area for DECC in recent years. The information provided in these pages makes use of data produced by DECC as well as a range of other sources including other Government Departments, Ofgem, Energy Saving Trust, Carbon Trust and research projects. Information for key current and future policies which support energy efficiency is available on the DECC website:
DECC has also recently set up the Energy Efficiency Deployment Office to drive a step change in energy efficiency, more information about its role is available on our Energy Efficiency Deployment Office web page.
The Homes Energy Efficiency Database (HEED) is a national database which tracks at property level the sustainable energy characteristics of the UK's housing stock. It collects datasets on energy efficiency and micro-generation installations such as cavity wall insulation and solar hot water, along with property survey information such as Energy Performance Certificates for Scotland.
The Energy Saving Trust publishes a series of reports based on data in HEED that provide a geographic distribution of professionally installed measures - currently cavity wall and loft insulation - claimed under the Carbon Emissions Reduction Target (CERT) scheme.
Ofgem report progress towards CERT on a quarterly basis. The suppliers provide Ofgem with the cumulative achieved carbon savings for each of their approved schemes; these savings are broken down by consumer type (Priority Group and non Priority Group) and measure type (insulation, lighting, heating, appliances, micro-generation & CHP and demonstration action).
Ofgem report progress toward CESP in its half yearly newsletter. It reports number of measures delivered, covering insulation, heating, district heating and Microgeneration, as well as carbon savings achieved.
DECC is a project partner for the ODYSSEE statistics programme. The ODYSSEE database contains a series of energy efficiency indicators for the 27 EU Members plus Croatia and Norway.
