This page estimates emissions of carbon dioxide for Local Authority (NUTS4) and Government Office Region (NUTS1) areas for the years 2005-2007.

Figures published previously for 2005-06 have been revised so that they are directly comparable to the 2007 figures.

The 2007 Local Authority Carbon Dioxide Figures were revised on 9 November 2009. Reasons for errors in the data are summarised below:

• Revisions to Local Authority CO₂ emissions estimates for 2005-2007

The National Statistics documents published on 17 September 2009 and revised on 9 November 2009 are:
 

• Statistical release: 2007 UK carbon dioxide emissions for Local Authority and Government Office region level
  This Statistical Release summarises the key points from the release, offers a brief background to the report and details the supplementary reports produced.
   
• Local and regional CO₂ emissions estimates for 2005-2007
  This full dataset includes both detailed and summary emission breakdowns for each local authority: 2005-2007 (produced on behalf of DECC by AEA).
   
• Summary data supporting the indicator (Indicator 186: Per capita CO₂ emissions in the LA area), sector and fuel details
  The indicator dataset includes both detailed and summary emission breakdowns for each local authority: 2005-2007. Only a subset of the sectors from the full dataset are included within this dataset (produced on behalf of DECC by AEA).
   
• Local Authority CO₂ emissions estimates 2007: statistical summary
  The statistical summary report summarises the main findings.
   
• Local and regional CO₂ emissions estimates for 2005-2007 for the UK
  This main report gives a detailed overview of how emissions were estimated and summarises the key findings (produced on behalf of DECC by AEA).
   
• Local Authority CO₂ emissions estimates 2007: methodology summary
  The methodological summaryprovides for a brief summary of how carbon dioxide emissions were estimated for each sector.

  This report outlines the methodology used to map emissions from smaller industrial and commercial sources.

  A report prepared by the Centre for Ecology and Hydrology (CEH) looking at LULUCF emissions and removals at the Local Authority level.
