About wind
Onshore and offshore wind generation can make a significant contribution to the UK’s renewable energy targets and aspirations given the UK’s substantial wind resource and the relatively advanced nature of wind generation technology. The UK already has more offshore wind capacity than any other country in the world.
In addition to addressing non-financial barriers, DECC is working to provide a clear, stable regulatory environment for companies to facilitate further investment.
During 2009/10 millions of pounds of grants were announced to help offshore wind companies in the UK and support research and development, including funding for the world’s largest wind blade test facility.
In partnership with the The Crown Estate, a new forum for offshore wind developers has been set up to ensure critical success factors for offshore wind expansion are identified and put in place effectively.
