PILOT

The right course for oil and gas success

Piper B oil production platform

PILOT (formerly the Oil and Gas Taskforce) facilitates a unique partnership between the UK Oil and Gas Industry, and government. They cooperate to deliver quicker, smarter and sustainable energy solutions to secure the long-term future of the UKCS and ensure full economic recovery of our hydrocarbon resources.

The aim of PILOT has been to:

  • focus on delivery of actions that will improve the competitiveness of the UK oil and gas industry
  • deliver the PILOT 2010 vision, which will contribute to the longer term security of energy supply
  • promote continued dialogue between government and industry

UK/Norway mentoring cross-border business to business mentoring programme

Following the success of previous UK/Norway mentoring programmes, DECC and INTSOK (Norwegian Oil & Gas Partners) in conjunction with the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate will shortly be launching the fourth UK/Norway Cross-border Business to Business mentoring programme. With improving recovery from our producing fields currently being a topical theme, this programme will have an IOR/EOR technology focus. The aim for the programme will be to match Operators and large Contractors with an active interest in IOR / EOR from the UK and Norway, with relevant SME’s in the reciprocal country.

The 12 month programme will provide a strategic insight and a great opportunity for UK companies to engage and understand opportunities and EOR techniques in the Norwegian oil and gas market. Companies like Statoil, GDF SUEZ, ConocoPhillips and Aker Solutions will be mentors in Norway together with a range of prominent UKCS Operators and large Contractors.

The underlying aim of the programme is to provide benefits for both parties focusing on IOR/EOR best practice. It is envisaged the programme will promote buy-in for progression of EOR projects and encourage investment in new technologies. It will strengthen the relationship between the two countries and hopefully expand the range of technological IOR/EOR opportunities available to the UK and Norwegian supply chain.

The programme will also provide a valuable insight into business practice and culture in the two countries.

The attached information pack gives more details on the programme. If your organisation is interested in participating, please complete the attached application form in the first instance, and return it by Friday 6 April 2012.

We need to prioritise what needs to be done to extend the life of the industry and how we measure our success and make sure we are all aligned to what needs to be done and what format a reinvigorated PILOT should adopt going forward.

(Charles Hendry, Minister of State for Energy)

The vision

Maximising the recovery of the UK’s remaining oil and gas resources is vital to the continued energy security and prosperity of this country. It is estimated that these resources could approach 20 billion barrels of oil equivalent. Through industry and government, PILOT advances initiatives directed at reducing cost, eliminating barriers and maximising the effectiveness of resources, to bring about a future that could still see the industry meeting half the country’s oil and gas needs.

It is timely for PILOT to move away from prescriptive targets and create a new roadmap for the future of the basin with the overall vision of maximising recovery of our hydrocarbon reserves in an economic and environmentally sustainable manner – a road map that will ensure we can anticipate and act on the issues the next 10 years will bring. It will articulate the direction of travel over a period of time with milestones identified for all proposed working areas and a possible ‘final destination’ for achieving an outcome in each area. We will also define what areas PILOT can impact on and which of those should be an industry or sectoral solution.
