UK and Departmental expenditure on COP16, Cancun

Cost to UK of delegation to COP16, Cancun: £355,701. This is broken down as:

  • Flights: £83,537
  • Accommodation: £180,751
  • Other expenses: £91,413

Cost to DECC of delegation to COP16, Cancun: £252,629. This is broken down as:

  • Flights: £58,200
  • Accommodation: £104,231
  • Other expenses: £90,198

(Other expenses includes office rental, IT and communications equipment, and ground transportation.)

Note: These costs do not include subsistence, since this information is not held centrally and could only be obtained at disproportionate cost. However, since the accommodation at Cancun was inclusive of meals, subsistence costs in addition to these figures are minimal.

The figures for the cost to DECC of accommodation and other expenses have been revised since first published, to reflect a clearer understanding of the exact breakdown of costs.

The UK sent a delegation of 46 people to Cancun. This was considerably smaller than the UK delegation sent to Copenhagen in 2009, as well as the delegations sent to Cancun by comparable other countries. A list of participants for each meeting is available on the UNFCCC: documentation web pages.
